The city of Lexington officially has a new fire chief. Jason Wells was sworn in by Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton on Monday. After 25 years and a lifetime of being around the Lexington Fire Department, this moment for Wells meant a lot. “I grew up in a fire service family. My dad started with the fire department in 1982, so for the better part of my life I was around the fire service, and to have my dad come back to pin the badge on me was tremendous for me,” Wells said. Mayor Gorton made it official, naming Chief Wells the 19th Chief of the Lexington Fire Department. “It’s no surprise that even though we conducted a national search, we found our new fire chief right here,” Mayor Gorton said. Chief Wells and the mayor both remarked about the challenges facing our community and what it will take to keep moving forward. In the words of the newly promoted Chief, the only way we accomplish our mission is to do it together.
