VIDEO: One local boy was recognized and dubbed the very first honorary firefighter for the Bowling Green Fire Department nearly two years after his death.
Cooper Waid was a teenager who volunteered his time with the fire department helping with Fill the Boot in the past. Nearly two years ago, Cooper passed away after battling muscular dystrophy throughout his life.
His mother was given a plaque, a helmet, a flag and a coin to commemorate Cooper’s induction as an honorary firefighter for the city.
His mother, Tonia Waid, was moved to tears seeing the fire department surprise her with such an overwhelmingly thoughtful gift.
