A fire broke out Monday evening at an industrial facility in Covington. Emergency units were called to the scene on Latonia Avenue near 43rd Street around 8 p.m. The business was Interplastic Corporation. City leaders in Fort Wright said there was an explosion involving a storage vessel housing a polyester resin. Crews were able to contain the fire which caused minimal property damage. No injuries were reported. Neighbors reported hearing explosions in the area. As a precautionary measure, a shelter in place order was issued to several neighborhoods surrounding the facility. Crews also established a 1,000-foot perimeter for safety purposes while they continue to investigate. According to a release from the city, the situation is active but contained and no immediate threat is believed to exist.
