VIDEO: An apartment fire in the Russell neighborhood led to three firefighters and one resident being taken to the hospital.
Captain Donovan Sims with the Louisville Fire Department said around 1 p.m. Friday, firefighters were called to the 2400 block of West Muhammad Ali Boulevard, where they found an apartment building on fire with heavy smoke coming off of it.
“It all happened so fast. I don’t even know what happened. Everything was fine one minute and then less than five minutes later, the house was full of smoke,” said Richard Bell, a resident in the building who became trapped in his second-floor bedroom. “I didn’t think I was going to make it out. I was really scared for a minute.”
Still covered in ash and soot, Bell described the few panicked minutes he was trapped on the second floor, as the room filled with smoke so thick, he could barely see his hand in front of his face.
