Tragedy Strikes as Eunice Man is Killed in House Fire
Investigators with the Louisiana State Fire Marshal's Office are investigating after a man died in a house fire early Monday morning. Chief Bryan J. Adams says they are not yet releasing the name of the person who perished in the fire, but they do believe it is the 67-year-old man who had been living in the RV in Eunice. As firefighters were working to put out the blaze, the man was found deceased in the doorway. Further information about the autopsy results will be released by the St. Landry Parish Coroner's Office. Investigators say the RV had no working smoke alarms and just hours before, the person living there had mentioned to family members that there were some electrical issues he was concerned about that were happening. Because of the extensive damage caused by the fire, investigators were unable to determine the exact cause of the fire and where it originated.

Fire destroys vacant house in Lafayette; flames damage 2 neighboring homes
VIDEO: A house that reportedly hadn't been lived in for more than a decade was destroyed in an early morning fire. Lafayette firefighters said they were called out to the 700 block of Elizabeth Avenue for a house fire on Thursday, May 2, around 3:45 a.m. They noted they were contacted by Lafayette police officers in the area. Officials said it took about 15 minutes to get the fire under control. They added two neighboring homes had minor fire damage. According to fire officials, they determined the house was vacant without utilities. They pointed out neighbors said no one had lived in the house in more than 10 years but vagrants had been seen going into it recently. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Juvenile airlifted after all-terrain vehicle crash in Natchitoches Parish
A 13-year-old juvenile has been airlifted to a regional trauma center with serious injuries following an all-terrain vehicle crash in Natchitoches Parish. Deputies and EMS arrived on scene to find the teen, who was not wearing a seatbelt, had been ejected after impact. Air EVAC medical helicopter was dispatched to the crash and landed at a landing zone in a field near the intersections of state highways 1 and 119. The juvenile's brother, who was riding as a passenger, was ejected prior to impact and not injured. He ran to the nearby home of an EMS paramedic to seek help. The accident happened just before 5:30 p.m. on Cat Island Road. The preliminary investigation indicates the juvenile driver lost control in a curve and went down a steep embankment, hitting a tree. The ATV went into the Cane River after impact.
