A train carrying animal fat derailed late Monday morning in Reserve, St. John the Baptist Parish officials said.
No one was injured in the incident, and no vehicles were involved, St. John Fire Chief Cain Dufrene said. The train was carrying non-hazardous materials, according Dufrene, who said two of the three derailed train cars were tankers carrying animal fat. The other car was empty, he said.
Railroad crossings at West 10th Street, West 15th Street and West 19th Street in Reserve were closed after the derailment, which happened around 11:30 a.m.
Kansas City Southern, which operates the tracks, is still investigating the cause of the derailment, Dufrene said, though he added it seemed like the train was traveling at a slow speed when the derailment happened.
