Vacant Baton Rouge house burned to the ground

VIDEO: Baton Rouge Fire Department officials are investigating the cause of an early morning house fire at 2019 Virginia St. It happened just after 3:00 a.m., Monday, in the 1800 block of East Harrison St. The vacant home was fully engulfed when fire crews arrived at 3:17 a.m. BRFD said, “firefighters protected an adjacent home that had begun to smolder due to the intense heat.” It took firefighters around 45 minutes to extinguish the fire. Through the efforts of firefighters, the adjacent structure was saved. The vacant home suffered $50,000 in damages and is considered a total loss. BRPD, EMS and Entergy assisted the Baton Rouge Fire Department at the scene of the fire. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and remains under investigation, according to the Baton Rouge Fire Department.
