Three people were taken to the hospital after a blaze broke out Wednesday evening at Dante and Oleander streets, in Hollygrove, according to the New Orleans Fire Department.
Emergency Medical Services spokesperson Jonathan Fourcade said one person was in critical condition and two received minor injuries.
The Fire Department's social media accounts offered little information on the two-alarm fire, but photos posted to Twitter showed firefighters trying to contain a blaze at a damaged home that had smoke rising from it.
Residents said they didn’t know the hospitalized people but described two of the victims as an older woman and her husband. A few doors down, Darlin Cidillo and her son, Gerar Flores, watched the blaze from their porch. They saw EMS personnel and firefighters move to the back of the home, where they carried at least one person out and into an ambulance.
