A puppy is safe thanks to Harvey volunteer firefighters. Members of the Harvey Volunteer Fire Company #2 rescued the puppy Wednesday around 9 a.m., after they got a call telling them a small dog was stuck in a canal near Hugh and Maplewood drives. The crew lowered their ladder and climbed into the canal to grab the pup and bring him to safety, taking a few photos of the rescue along the way. The dog didn't have any tags, so firefighters kept him until Jefferson Parish Animal Shelter volunteers came. They say there's already been some interest in adoption. They say he received VIP treatment, standing for "Very Important Puppy." According to the firefighters, their company has also rescued two dogs and a cat from two fires this year.
