The right lane of I-20 westbound in Shreveport was shut down Monday due to several grass fires in the area. It took more than two dozen firefighters with five engines and assistance from Caddo Fire District 3 along with a tanker from the Shreveport Regional Airport Fire Department to put out the flames, which flared up in several spots along the interstate between Monkhouse Drive and Jewella Avenue. The extra help was called in to help make sure nearby residential and commercial property wasn’t damaged in the fire. According to SFD Chief Skip Pinkston, interstate grass fires are not uncommon this time of year, as the cold kills the grass and the wind dries it out.
