The St. Martin Parish Council approved on Tuesday an ordinance to authorize the parish government to pay $450,000 to the St. Landry Parish Fire Protection District #5. In exchange, St. Martin Parish would receive a 50-year lease to place fire units and crew at a new proposed fire station in Arnaudville, The Daily Iberian reports.
That ordinance was approved unanimously by the council. The $450,000 will go towards paying for a new station to house those units, according to the paper. The full ordinance reads: SUMMARY NO. 1290-OR - An Ordinance to authorize the St. Martin Parish Government to enter into an Intergovernmental Agreement with St. Landry Parish Fire Protection District #5 whereby for the sum of $450,000 the St. Martin Parish Government will have the right to occupy premises located in the Town of Arnaudville, Louisiana, for the purposes of fire protection services rendered by the Fire Service District of St. Martin Parish and/or the Arnaudville Fire Department.
