The Bossier City Fire Department is the first in the state of Louisiana to implement EleGARD Patient Positioning System, a device designed to position cardiac arrest patients in a manner to improve resuscitation efforts.
This week the fire department trained on the new equipment which is set to be deployed into its fleet on Thursday. Each of the fire department's ambulances will be equipped with its own EleGARD System, and one device will be carried by the EMS supervisor to be deployed as needed. “We’re very excited about it. We’re very fortunate that our mayor (and) City Council supports the Fire Department the way they do,” said Bossier City Fire Department Chief of EMS Jeffrey Watson. “They give us the funds to be able to do these kinds of projects, to be the first and we’re able to do things that some departments can’t but we’re doing it to increase outcomes and increase survival in the city and we’re very fortunate to be able to do that.”
