Four Jefferson Parish firefighters have tested positive for the coronavirus and another 31 are under quarantine. Bryan Adams, Jefferson Parish fire services director, said the cases all emerged in the past week and are from two West Bank fire departments.
Two firefighters at Terrytown Volunteer Fire Department have COVID-19, and 17 more there are under quarantine. They are being tested daily, Adams said. That leaves Terrytown with 18 firefighters available, which Adams said is enough to meet the minimum required for each shift with some first-responders working extra time.
The other two individuals with COVID-19 are part of the staff of 75 firefighters in Marrero. Back-tracing led to another 14 firefighters there being quarantined, leaving the department with about 80 percent of its 75 personnel.
None of the firefighters with COVID-19 interacted with the public while on duty, Adams said.
