Two people were displaced and one of them suffered a small burn after their St. Gerard Avenue home caught on fire around 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Baton Rouge Fire Department determined that combustible material in the attic was too close to to the ventilation pipe for the natural gas wall heaters, sparking the fire, according to BRFD spokesperson Justin Hill. Firefighters arrived to see heavy smoke coming from the home. The two occupants had exited the home by the time BRFD arrived. Firefighters controlled the blaze to two bedrooms and a bathroom, and the whole house had severe water and smoke damage.
