A woman died in a fire in a house so cluttered that firefighters had a hard time finding her, the Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office said in a news release Monday.
Officials said Bunkie firefighters “had to work through excessive contents inside of the home, not only to locate the victim, but to extinguish” the fire.
Firefighters found the woman’s body in a bedroom after the fire was put out Saturday afternoon, the release said. The woman has not been officially identified but is believed to be the 66-year-old homeowner.
Officials determined the fire originated in the attic. It wasn’t immediately clear what caused the fire and officials said they cannot rule out a possible electrical malfunction.
