VIDEO: A nationwide program that teaches high school girls the ins and outs of the firefighting and police career field is coming to the Lake Charles Area in July. Designed for 20 to 25 girls, the camp has been integral in showing females that they can achieve success in fields that are 95 percent male. Cheri Ardoin, who is helping bring the camp to Southwest Louisiana, said the state hasn’t had a program like this before, and it will teach values and skills ranging from confidence to forensics. “This program is definitely helping to pave the way for females in these career fields, and it’s great to get to teach them these skills that have been apart of my life,” said Ardoin. One big goal of the camp is to teach skills that come from within. Confidence, self reliance and teamwork are core values.
