Two people were able to make it out of a mobile home that was destroyed by fire in Lafayette Parish but the owner's pet was not so fortunate. It happened on Cameron Street near Hollier Road in the Sadou area between Scott and Duson on Wednesday, April 24. Fire crews from Duson, Scott, and Judice responded to the fire just before 6:20 a.m. Duson Deputy Fire Chief Glenn Cormier said the homeowner reported burning logs in a fire pit Tuesday night and thought they were out. Neighbors noticed flames on the porch Wednesday morning and alerted the homeowner, who was able to safely escape with his girlfriend. Unfortunately, a cat died in the flames. Lafayette fire investigators are probing the cause but Deputy Chief Cormier added it's likely accidental. The mobile home is a total loss.
