A two-alarm fire early Wednesday morning (April 24) displaced two people and left “several” cats dead inside the badly damaged home, Westwego fire officials said. The fire was reported at 2:21 a.m. at a single-story home at 1130 Avenue D. The Westwego Volunteer Fire Department arrived within four minutes and quickly sounded a second alarm, summoning additional manpower from the 7th and 8th Jefferson Parish Fire Districts. The contingent of 32 firefighters brought the blaze under control after 35 minutes. One adult and one child were displaced by the fire, but no injuries were reported. Westwego Fire Chief Ken Bouvier said “several cats were found deceased.” The cause of the fire is under investigation.
