Calvert County is the last county in Maryland to have a fire rescue and emergency medical services association entirely run by volunteers, and to honor these men and women who dedicate time from their busy lives to do this work, the Calvert County Volunteer Fire Rescue and EMS Association held its annual awards banquet April 14. The banquet and installation of officers celebrates the work of the volunteers from the Southern Maryland Volunteer Firemen’s Association and the Calvert County Volunteer Fire Rescue and EMS Association. This includes the county’s various fire departments and rescue squads, along with the Calvert Advanced Life Support and Calvert County Rescue Dive Team. “It recognizes their hard work and dedication to the department and the citizens of Calvert County,” said Calvert County Volunteer Fire Rescue and EMS Secretary Lori Lodge, who added there about 1,000 volunteers in the field from all from backgrounds.
