A Bay City homeowner suffered second-degree burns and three pets died in a fire that destroyed an attached garage Sunday night, Aug. 4.
Kent Island Volunteer Fire Department responded to the fire at 807 Chesapeake Drive at 9:10 p.m. and found the garage fully involved.
KIVFD Assistant Chief Paul Schlotterbeck said firefighters were able to primarily contain the fire to the garage, though there was some extension and smoke damage to the one-story, single family house.
The Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal identified the homeowners as James and Robin Brenholtz. Both sustained injuries during the fire.
The man sustained second-degree burns to both hands and was flown by Maryland State Police helicopter to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore for treatment, the fire marshal’s office said.
