Salisbury’s Fire Department has expanded its force thanks to a recent grant from the Department of Homeland Security. The SAFER Grant, standing for Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response, promised the Salisbury Fire Department 1.5 million dollars, allowing them to fund 12 new firefighter positions. We’re told the firefighters are already hard at work training at various locations throughout the county and beyond, which is good news because the fire department says the new firefighters were much needed. Deputy Chief Darrin Scott at the Salisbury Fire Department said, “It’s adding staffing to our Department as far as more fire fighters on the engines and trucks and it also has allowed us to reopen fire station 2 on Brown and Naylor Street 24 hours a day.” The firefighters will graduate from training on Friday, March 15th. The graduation ceremony will take place at Salisbury University and the public is invited to attend.
