VIDEO: A massive fire engulfed Bell Nursery in Burtonsville around noon Monday. More than 100 firefighters battled the fire at the largest wholesale nursery supplier in the Mid-Atlantic. The warehouse building, nearly the size of a football field, is full of seed and fertilizer. Firefighters used meters to monitor the air quality, particularly because of the fertilizer. But so far there have been no bad reads. Plastic bags filled with seed, plus fertilizer and propane tanks added fuel to the blaze. A brigade of water tankers dumped water on the structure. Bell Nursery owns the building and the property that surrounds it. Each year, the nursery creates and ships around 100 million plants to retailers, predominantly to The Home Depot. Officials say the fire's cause appears to be accidental, but they're not providing more details just yet.
