West Side Volunteer Fire Department Chief Passes Away

John Harold Wilson, who was the chief of the West Side Volunteer Fire Department, which serves the Bivalve area of Wicomico County, died Tuesday. He was 63. According to his obituary, in addition to his role as chief, Wilson also was a member of the West Side VFD's marine rescue operations team. In February 1983, Wilson joined the Salisbury Fire Department as a volunteer firefighter at Station 2 where he served as president. In February 1990, he joined the Parsonsburg Volunteer Fire Company where he became a paramedic and served as deputy chief. For the past 20 years, Wilson served with the West Side VFD as a firefighter, paramedic and a member of the dive team. At the time of his death, Wilson was the West Side VFD chief and a member of its marine rescue operations. He also served the West Side VFD as assistant chief and ambulance captain.
