A captain with the Fort George G. Meade fire department was the base’s first person to receive a coronavirus vaccine. Sgt. Timothy Perez, with Kimbrough Ambulatory Care Center, Fort Meade’s medical services, gave the vaccine to Capt. Chris Ransom Monday, according to a Facebook post from Meade’s page. Ten first responders from the base’s emergency services received the vaccine Monday at McGill Training Center. Kimbrough posted on its own Facebook page Sunday that it had received a limited number of vaccines. Kimbrough staff, first responders and health care workers were given prioritization for the vaccine, according to the post. It is not clear if the base received the vaccine from Pfizer or Moderna. Kimbrough staff and beneficiaries had the option to not get the vaccine, as it is being distributed on a voluntary base.
