Gas leak prompts evacuations, road closures in Montgomery County

A damaged, leaking gas line in Montgomery County, Md. prompted an evacuation and road closures on Tuesday. As of 11:15 a.m., the leak was controlled but area roads remain closed. The incident happened in a North Bethesda construction excavation area on Pike & Rose and Towne roads, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesperson Pete Piringer. The area was cordoned off to pedestrians and some nearby boulevards were evacuated as a precaution. SkyTrak7 also flew over the area to get a birds-eye view. Josiah Henson Parkway and Town road are also closed, Piringer. No further details were immediately available.
