2nd Alarm Structure Fire At Champion Auto Parts In St. Mary's County, Burn Victim Flown Out

A large fire erupted at Champion Auto Parts located at 45864 Usher Lane in Valley Lee on April 23, 2024, at approximately 2:44 p.m. Fire and rescue personnel responded to the scene, where they found the 150×75 building fully engulfed in flames. Upon arrival, crews discovered one employee suffering from burn injuries. EMS evaluated the patient on the scene and requested a MEDEVAC immediately. Firefighters launched an exterior defensive attack to combat the rapidly spreading fire. However, the back of the structure began to collapse due to the intensity of the flames. SMECO arrived to secure the power, ensuring the safety of the responders and the surrounding area. A total of 49 personnel responded to the initial emergency call. The cause of the fire is not known at this time.
