Firefighters in Brunswick say they're understaffed, and that it's putting public safety at risk. Brunswick fire officials are asking for one new fire inspector position and four new firefighter positions to be added to their roster. Officials say if they don’t add more positions, it could put residents at risk. "I don't think people realize how busy Brunswick is,” Brunswick Professional Firefighters Union President Matthew Barnes said. “They definitely don't realize how many times the stations are empty. They're empty with nobody in it." Barnes says the proposal would add one firefighter to every shift. He says Brunswick answered more than 3,000 calls last year for a variety of emergencies.
