A firefighter and a sheriff’s deputy brought a man in a wheelchair to safety Sunday evening after a fire started in the kitchen of his home at 117 Lake Sherburne Road in Waterboro. The 6 p.m. fire was quickly extinguished, said Waterboro Fire Chief Matthew Bors. The homeowner was taken to the hospital by ambulance where he was treated for smoke inhalation. He was assisted out of the home by firefighter Tim Benoit, who works for both Waterboro and Alfred fire departments, and York County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Travis Belleard, according to Bors. The fire damage was confined to the second-floor kitchen of the three-level home, said Bors. He said there was some smoke in other parts of the building.
