Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital and Blue Hill Hospital, with the support of Machias Savings Bank, hosted local emergency responders with an Emergency Responders Appreciation Dinner May 7 in the Ellsworth hospital cafeteria. Maine Coast and Blue Hill hospitals honor a local responder/team of responders each year for “Outstanding Emergency Call of the Year” based on nominations from the community. This year’s recipient was Southwest Harbor Fire Department (along with the assistance of other firefighters and agencies including the Tremont Fire Department, Mount Desert Ambulance, Warden Services, MDI Search and Rescue, Acadia National Park, Mount Desert Fire Department, Southwest Harbor RD, Southwest Harbor/and Tremont Ambulance) for responding to a dangerous snowmobile event in and around Long Pond. As the nomination stated: “The rescuers all went home safely. This was a tremendous effort by many different agencies who all worked together to make the outcome be a positive one.”
