The town of Bucksport has hired its first public safety director and he’s a familiar face: Police Chief Sean Geagan. Geagan will manage all departments related to public safety, including police, fire, emergency medical service, animal control and dispatch. Meanwhile, Detective Sgt. David Winchester has been promoted to deputy police chief. Over in the Fire Department, Assistant Fire Chief Mike Denning has been named deputy fire chief. Town Manager Sue Lessard said the changes are effective Nov. 4. The town will hold a swearing-in ceremony at the Nov. 14 Town Council meeting. No information on salaries for the positions was available before press time. Part of the impetus for restructuring the town’s public safety departments was former Fire Chief Craig Bowden’s retirement from working as chief last spring. “They were unsuccessful in hiring a fire chief,” Geagan said.
