50 people were evacuated from the Comfort Inn on Bangor Mall Boulevard Monday.
Firefighters responded to reports of a fire there around 4:30 p.m.
Upon arrival, they say there were smoke and flames on the third floor.
Firefighters made quick work of the fire, which was contained to one room.
Officials say it could’ve been a lot worse, but the hotel had a working sprinkler system and alarms.
“There was an occupant in the room,” said Deputy Fire Chief Eric Pelletier. “They noticed there was a problem when the lights when out. They notified the front desk and when they came back to the room, there was smoke and fire from the ceiling.”
Pelletier says the cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it does not appear to be suspicious.
Nobody was injured.
Firefighters from Brewer and Orono assisted in putting out the fire.
