About 27 employees, representing four of Houlton’s five union groups, now have new contracts in place. Houlton Town Council ratified three-year union contracts for general government, public works, emergency medical technicians and firefighters/drivers at its Dec. 30 meeting. Those contracts began Jan. 1 and last until Dec. 31, 2022. It leaves just one group — the town’s police department — without a new contract. “We are still in negotiations with the police department for their contract,” Houlton Town Manager Marian Anderson said. The town manager said her hope is that the police contracts will be ratified shortly. Until that happens, those employees will work under their current contract. The new deals include a 2 percent cost of living increase for employees in the second and third years of the contract.
