A Maine man had to be rescued from an icy lake after he fell in while trying to rescue a deer that had fallen through the ice. The Maine Warden Service said Rock Crowe, 63, of Princeton, went out onto Long Lake in Washington County on Monday morning in a canoe to try to rescue the deer. Crowe’s canoe capsized, throwing him into the water. He was wearing a life jacket, wardens said. Crowe’s wife called game warden Brad Richard who was in the area. Richard went to the scene, saw Crowe in the water, and then got an airboat stored at a nearby airport. Richard, along with Princeton fire Chief Tony Ramsdell and firefighter Chris McPhee, got to Crowe in the airboat. Ramsdell, who was wearing a cold-water rescue suit, jumped into the water to get Crowe into the airboat.
