Firefighters responded to a fire at Sprague’s Nursery and Garden Center in Bangor early Tuesday morning. When crews arrived, they discovered a two bay garage with an attached greenhouse engulfed in flames. According to Bangor Assistant Fire Chief Casey Perry, the structure was heavily damaged. Sprague’s says while they have many greenhouses, this is considered the main one. As they are due to begin work to prepare for their spring season, this disrupts their plans a bit. But they say it won’t stand in their way. “So, 15 days or so, usually the week of Feb. 20, when we get our first shipment of plants in and they go right into that house, and right next door into the house number two, which wasn’t on fire, but the plastic all melted off from being so close to the other fire,” said Melissa Higgins, general manager.
