Thanks to the local fire department, a group of hard-working students in Levant got to ride to school in style. All year, fourth graders at Levant Elementary have participated in the fire prevention education program taught by the Levant Fire and Rescue Department. The students who completed and passed in all of their homework from the program were put in a drawing for a ride to school in a fire truck. The lucky few selected, drove around town and were dropped off at school by the fire department, but that wasn't where the fun ended. Nine students were also given the chance to pie Levant firefighter Steve DeWitt in the face. "That's what it's about. You put in hard work and you're trying to teach these kids something," says DeWitt, "And they're- ya'know kids this age are sponges so they're taking that home to their parents."
