An investigation is underway into a fatal fire that happened Wednesday in St. George. At about 7:46 a.m., fire crews responded to a report of a residential fire at 272 Clark Island Rd. in St. George, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a news release. While crews with the St. George Fire Department were working to extinguish the fire, they discovered a deceased adult male, according to Moss. Investigators with the state fire marshal's office responded to the scene to begin an investigation, the release stated. It was determined the man who died had lived alone at the home, which was a rental property. Moss said the body will be taken to the chief medical examiner's office in Augusta for an autopsy. "The identification of the deceased will not be released until next of kin has been notified," the release said.
