VIDEO: A car hit a fire hydrant on Warren Ave. in Westbrook Friday morning, leaving the car submerged in water and causing damage to the side of the road.
It happened right by Stratham Tire.
There were significant traffic delays for a couple of hours, but traffic was flowing in both directions by 7:30 a.m. and the car was removed just after 8 a.m.
The Portland Water District said crews would work to patch up the road on Friday, but that a new hydrant would likely not be installed on Friday. Water District officials said they initially had trouble isolating the hydrant, so some customers in the area may have dealt with lower water pressure Friday morning, but by 7:30 things were back to normal.
Police said the driver of the car was not hurt. It was not immediately clear what caused the car to go off the road.
