A Waseca man is accused of starting a basement fire at a residence last year, according to charges filed Monday. Jesse A. Tollefson, 27, faces one felony count of first-degree arson and a fifth-degree misdemeanor arson charge in Waseca County. Tollefson was outside a Waseca residence at 613 Fourth St. NE on May 27 when authorities responded to a basement fire. The complainant told an officer Tollefson had something to do with it, according to the criminal complaint. A deputy state fire marshal reported finding a plastic bottle with gasoline in it in the dryer unit and what appeared to be gas poured on a wood support beam in the basement. A probation agent told investigators Tollefson admitted to starting the fire two days later, the complaint said.
