Interim Fire Chief Shawn Krizaj is being recommended for the job permanently. The city announced the recommendation Monday afternoon, and the Duluth City Council will be asked to approve it at the Monday, Aug. 26 meeting. Former Chief Dennis Edwards was put on leave after being arrested and charged for DUI in April. He formally stepped down in April and pleaded guilty to the DUI charges in May. Mayor Emily Larson and her staff started the search for a new chief in June. Krizaj has been with the department for 22 years and served as deputy chief under Edwards. He has also been the technical services coordinator, a captain, fire equipment operator and firefighter. In a press release, Krizaj said he is honored to be selected.
