A late morning fire caused extensive damage to a horse barn. Firefighters from Eagle Lake, Madison Lake, and Kasota all responded. Training Officer John Kluntz with the Eagle Lake Fire Department said, "Today's fire started out pretty hot. Kasota had it mostly under control by the time we got here as a mutual aid department. We were able to control the exposures and not let it affect any of the other buildings or property on the site." The barn is owned by Lynn and Darla Austin, who train and show horses. "At least no one was hurt and none of the animals were in the barn at the time. They were all outside, " Lynn Austin said. Neighbors stopped by to offer help to the family. While the horses are okay, some items lost in the fire were irreplaceable. "All of our trophies and all of our ribbons are in there also. Plus all of the decorations for the horse expo that we go to every year," said Austin.
