Cloquet: Man dies after water emergency in St. Louis River

According to Hubbard station WDIO in Duluth, the Cloquet Police Department said in a press release that an early morning water emergency left a 34-year-old man dead in the St. Louis River. At approximately 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning, the Cloquet Police Department was notified of the sound of someone calling for help. Officers discovered that a man had fallen through the ice on the St. Louis River. Using a nearby boat, rope lines and throw rings, emergency personnel tried to reach the victim. Minnesota Power was notified of the incident and water flow was reduced at the dam upstream. Attempts to reach the victim were unsuccessful. At approximately 5:45 a.m., the victim was located 40 feet from where he was last seen, 20 feet underwater. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
