Ramsey County sheriff’s deputies on Thursday afternoon found the body of an 11-year-old boy who went missing earlier this week while swimming in the Mississippi River.
The boy was swimming near Hidden Falls Regional Park shortly after 7:30 p.m. Tuesday when he went underwater and did not resurface, the sheriff’s office said.
Several people called 911, while others entered the river to search for the child until first responders arrived and took over.
Over the next two days, deputies and St. Paul firefighters searched the river by boat, aided by volunteer organizations Wings of Hope Search and Rescue and NorthStar Search and Rescue, while a Minnesota State Patrol helicopter assisted from the air.
