A small grass fire near a home on Gull Lake prompted response from Pillager Area Fire and Rescue Thursday, May 14. Fourteen Pillager firefighters and one firefighter from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources were on scene on the 10000 block of County Highway 77 on the southwest end of Wilson Bay in Fairview Township near East Gull Lake. Pillager Fire Chief Greg Ringler said although the fire was small, it did run along a steep hill and wind was stronger near the lake. The homeowner was there with a hose protecting a set of stairs on the hill and firefighters extinguished the blaze. Ringler said the fire was possibly started by someone burning debris and no dwellings were threatened. The department spent about an hour at the site.
