The Missouri State Capitol rotunda was packed with men and women in uniforms Wednesday as firefighters were honored for their service and sacrifice. State Fire Marshal J. Tim Bean, Director of Public Safety Sandy Karsten and Gov. Mike Parson all delivered remarks to a crowd full of fire personnel from across the state. Parson specifically recognized the Missouri Fire Service Funeral Assistance Team for their dedication to taking care of families of firefighters who have died in the line of duty. In 2018, a firefighter from El Dorado Springs died in the line of duty, 62-year-old Russ Hayes. His daughter was in the audience for the event. There were also emergency responders who assisted over the summer when 17 people were killed after a duck boat capsized near Branson. Parson recognized them as well.
