A firefighter was injured over the weekend while battling a house fire.
According to Cape Girardeau Fire Battalion Chief Dustin Koerber, a fire broke out around 2 p.m. Sunday, January 3 on the 300 block of South Hanover Street.
When firefighters arrived, they found the fire on the back porch of the house, extending to the roof, half story and attic spaces.
While no one was home and no civilians were injured, Chief Koerber said one firefighter was taken to an area hospital with moderate injuries.
The cause of the fire was undetermined.
The chief said there was about $85,000 worth of damage to the home.
Cape Girardeau firefighters were assisted by fire departments from Scott City, East County, Gordonville and Jackson.
