VIDEO: It was a busy Saturday for members of several local organizations – all for the benefit of safety. The American Red Cross of Southern Missouri continued work on their Home Fire Campaign. They teamed up with members of the Carthage Fire Department – along with local Salvation Army chapters and volunteers from the Alpha Y Omega Covenant Church and Hispanic Connection Group – both based in Carthage. Their mission was to visit homes and install 10-year lithium-ion battery smoke alarms – if needed – free of charge. Red Cross officials say the campaign started in 2014, and has been documented to have saved at least five lives during house fires. Several homes at Sunset Trailer Park in Carthage were visited by volunteers. Sandra Tzapinel is one of the residents that lives there. Officials say she played a big role in their visit – with the Hispanic population that lives there.
