If you live in Boone County and heard an outdoor warning siren Thursday afternoon, you're not the only one. The Boone County Office of Emergency Management said there was a technical malfunction with a siren located in the 5400 block of Rangeline Street. There is no severe weather threat, Chief Meteorologist Matt Beckwith said. Boone County OEM said its preliminary investigation suggests a lightning strike was the cause of the siren's malfunction. Jake Waller, deputy director of Boone County OEM, said they planned to notify nearby residents about the malfunction sirens. "We've already started posting on our social channels telling people that there has been an issue with one of the sirens in North Columbia," Waller said. "We plan to put out several press releases just to kind of notify people of what the process is and that we did have an issue."
