The City of New Albany has an opening for a new fire chief. After almost nine years with the department, Steve Coker announced he will be leaving the department. New Albany Mayor Tim Kent said the city is deeply saddened by the news. Kent described Coker as one of the best fire chiefs he has ever worked with, saying there will be big shoes to fill. Coker has been the New Albany Fire chief since 2011 and has spent 28 years in the fire industry. Kent said he is now taking applications for a new fire chief. He hopes to have someone hired to fill Coker's spot. Until then, Kent said that Mark Whiteside will be the one performing many of Coker's former duties.
