The woods fire that occurred on Tuesday, May 12, 2020, in the vicinity of Riley Road resulted in approximately 120 acres of vegetation being impacted and numerous structures threatened.
No structures were damaged and there were no reported injuries due to the fire. A joint investigation was conducted by the State Fire Marshal’s Office, Ocean Springs Fire Department, and the Ocean Springs Police Department. Through this investigation it was determined that this incident was accidental in nature and the result of a juvenile playing with a lighter. No further details regarding this investigation will be released.
