Two people died during a house fire in Hattiesburg.
The fire happened in the early morning hours of Friday, April 12 in the 100 block of South Hills Drive.
Officials said two people were pronounced deceased at the scene, and another person was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Family members identified the victims as Stanley Carter and Billy Ray Keyes. Forrest County Coroner Lisa Klem said their remains were sent to the State Crime Lab to determine the cause and manner of death.
The injured victim, who was identified as Cynthia Carter by family members, is in critical condition at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office in collaboration with the Hattiesburg Police Department and the Hattiesburg Fire Department.
